Champions Tour’s Schwab Cup Points Winner Relied on Company’s YS-8.1 Model En Route to Stellar Season
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver, fairway wood and hybrid shaft models on the PGA TOUR — drove this weekend’s winners on the PGA TOUR, LPGA Tour and Japan Tour, as well as the winner of the Champions Tour’s season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race, according to the Darrell Survey.
The winner of the PGA’s Ginn sur Mer Classic at Tesoro claimed his first career title using Graphite Design’s YS-8.1 shaft in his 3-wood and 7-wood. He finished at 19-under par for the week to claim a one-shot win over a runner-up who played Graphite Design’s Tour AD model in his driver.
At the Honda LPGA Thailand event, the winner played Graphite Design’s YS-6 shaft in her driver for victory No. 5 on the season and her second in a row. She drained a 15-foot putt for eagle on the final hole for the dramatic win. On the Champions Tour, Graphite Design’s YS-8.1 model was the driver shaft of choice for this year’s Charles Schwab Cup titleist, who claimed a pair of victories and 14 top-five finishes on the season.
At the Japan Tour’s ABC Championship, Graphite Design captured the graphite wood shaft brand count for the 154th consecutive tournament, a streak dating to 2002. In all, 118 Graphite Design shafts were played at the event, 37.5 percent of the total in drivers, hybrids and fairway woods and 63 more than the nearest competitor. The winner used Graphite Design’s YS-7 shaft his 3-wood, becoming the 14th Japan Tour champ in 20 events this season to play the company’s shafts.
"This weekend’s results offer further proof of Graphite Design’s superior playability for golfers of all types," said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "Professionals the world over, both men and women of all age groups, turn to our shafts to deliver the accuracy and distance needed to excel. Likewise, amateurs of all different swing profiles can achieve optimum results by using Graphite Design shafts throughout the bag."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. This year the company introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S. and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
