U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier At Stonewall Orchard Near Chicago
JUNE 4, 2009-GRAYSLAKE, IL-Pairings have been set for the Monday, June 8 U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club in Grayslake, a far north suburb of Chicago.
A public facility that’s celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Stonewall Orchard has hosted local qualifying in 2003 and 2005 but this year marks the first time the open-to-the-public course hosts a ‘final stage qualifier.’ Twenty one players will square off for 36 holes of stroke play on June 8, competing for one berth into the 2009 U.S. Open, held June 15-21 at Bethpage State Park (Black Course), another public facility, in Farmingdale, NY.
“One player’s dream is going to come true on June 8,” said Jeff Pajula, Director of Golf at Stonewall Orchard. “To be the only course in the Midwest to host a sectional qualifier-and the fact that we are open to the public-should hopefully make any golf lover interested in testing his or her ability out on our beautiful course.”
Stonewall Orchard is a par 72 that plays to just over 7,000 yards and through heavily wooded, mature Oaks and Pines. The first course in Illinois designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills, Stonewall Orchard features natural, rolling landscapes throughout its magnificent 18-hole Lake County layout and features an abundance of tranquil wetlands and wildlife. From the 4,968-yard junior short course to the 7,074-yard, par 72 championship layout, each hole provides its own identity while completely immersing the golfing public into nature.
