CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 9, 2013) – At least five contestants in the 2013 Masters, including one past champion, are expected to use Nippon Shaft steel shafts in their irons this week at Augusta National.

All of the players have adopted Nippon Shaft steel shafts since the company began designing a category of shafts specifically for elite and lower handicap players seeking a shaft more responsive to their swing categories.

“Nippon Shaft is proud that five of the world’s top players have chosen to play our products at the world’s best known and often most exciting golf tournament,” said Hiro Fukuda, head of sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft. “We wish them the best in their quest to make history this week.”

• The Spanish star who helped Europe overcome the U.S. at last year’s Ryder Cup will use the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 X flex steel shafts in his irons;

• The strapping Australian and 2009 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year will utilize the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 S flex steel shafts in his irons;

• The World Golf Hall of Fame’s sole Fijian member, who put on the Green Jacket in 2000, will use the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120 TX flex steel shafts in his irons;

• The 37-yearold Swede, who got into the Masters field based on strong finishes at the Shell Houston Open (T-2) and the previous week at Bay Hill (T-8) – which elevated him into list of the world’s top 50 players – will use the N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 120 X flex steel shafts in his irons;

• The 37-year-old Richmond, Ind. native who last year tied the record for the lowest final-round score in the 76-year history of the Masters will be using the N.S. MODUS3 PROTO ST X flex steel shafts in his irons.

The N.S. PRO MODUS3 Tour 130 went on sale to the public on Feb. 1 after Nippon Shaft experts spent years traveling with the PGA TOUR getting player feedback and input during the shaft’s development phase. The other shafts mentioned above also were developed during this process.

Nippon Shaft products are available either as stock or custom shafts in many of the world’s top iron brands.

In addition, Nippon Shaft products are available through Shaftology – Nippon Shaft’s dedicated clubfitter network – and through the custom club departments of top club manufacturers.

Nippon Shaft manufactures all of its steel and graphite shafts in a state-of-the-art factory in Komagane, Japan. The company’s integrated production lines are strictly monitored and controlled with thorough checks conducted responsibly through the entire production process, Fukuda said. As a result, Nippon Shaft is able to control high product quality – from material selection to final testing.

Nippon Shaft has more than 100 professional victories worldwide. Based in Yokohama, Japan, Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia, where it controls 80 percent of the golf shaft market.

Nippon Shaft is a privately-held subsidiary of NHK Spring Co. LTD, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Carlsbad.
