Can Golf Ignore Market Sentiments?

August 31, 2015

“Advertising people who ignore research are as dangerous as generals who ignore decodes of enemy signals.” – David Ogilvy, founder of Ogilvy and Mather Advertising.

This is a fascinating poser especially when one considers that for nearly 186 years, the golf industry in Asia has had no market research done!

That’s one helluva long time to have kept an industry in a state of “ignorance”.

The late legendary Ogilvy knew what he was talking about. He single-handedly set standards for the global advertising and communications industry.

Market research is essential for the survival and growth of any business. It enables one to improve the competitive nature of his business and reduce his risks. Far too many businesses embark on projects or ventures without proper market research. Good entrepreneurs are in fact risk minimisers rather than risk takers, and market research is the primary tool that enables you to reduce risks.

Recognising the lack of universal market research for the golf industry in Southeast Asia which is home to over 800 golf courses, the Asia Pacific Golf Group embarked on an ambitious research project that polled golfers in the region for over three months.

More than 1200 valid submissions were received and the findings are both comprehensive and conclusive.

“It was a tough and daunting project to undertake but we felt that the industry needed timely and pertinent market data especially in this day and age where the old fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants, poke-a-finger-in-the-air measurement barometers no longer apply,” said Mike Sebastian, chief executive officer of the Asia Pacific Golf Group which conducted the research.

Key findings will be previewed at the 2015 Asia Pacific Golf Summit (APGS 2015) to be held in Singapore on October 14-15. The full findings will be tabulated in ASIAN GOLF PROFILES and will be on sale on October 30.

Delegates to APGS 2015 will be offered ASIAN GOLF PROFILES at a specially discounted price to be announced on October 14.

“The findings will tell you almost everything you need to know about golfers, their life-styles, the number of rounds they play, their preferred brands, their travel habits, ownership of luxury good and products – as a matter of fact ASIAN GOLF PROFILES is a one-stop source for everything relating to golfers’ demographics and psychographics and there’s nothing on the market to match it,” Sebastian emphasized.

Come and be part of an industry revelation as APGS 2015 unravels key findings of what the golf and club industry is REALLY like in the region. Let’s all get serious and scientific with how we view and appraise the market and its potential going forward.
