(Grand Rapids, Mich.) “Let’s Do This!” is the catchphrase of Michael Breed, the celebrated golf instructor and host of The Golf Fix on Golf Channel. Come next February at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids, he’ll utter it live and in person. The West Michigan Golf Show announced Breed will be a headliner for its 28th edition set for Feb. 12-14, 2016. One of the game’s most recognizable and accomplished teachers, Breed has rocketed to national prominence due to The Golf Fix, now in its seventh season and seen in over 80 countries for Golf Channel.
“Looking at the impressive roster of past teachers and presenters at the West Michigan Golf Show, I’m honored to be a part of the 2016 Show,” said Breed, the 2012 PGA of America’s National Teacher of the Year. “Michigan is a hotbed of avid and knowledgeable golfers so I’m eager to share my thoughts on playing better and enjoying the game more.”
Carolyn Alt, West Michigan Golf Show’s Senior Manager, said area golfers will be both enlightened and entertained by Breed. “Michael has such an energetic and electric stage presence you can’t wait to get out on the course-even in the dead of winter,” said Alt.
She also proudly cited that Breed is the 13th nationally honored teacher by the PGA or LPGA to appear at the West Michigan Golf Show in the past 28 years. Previous award-winning headliners have included Hank Haney, Jim Flick, Todd Anderson, Kathy Gildersleeve-Jensen, Lou Guzzi, Charlie Sorrell, Mike Hebron, Gary Wiren and Kay McMahon.
Director of Instruction at the Michael Breed Golf Academy at Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Bronx-a Jack Nicklaus-designed championship course open for public play-Breed’s golf career spans over 25 years. He was an assistant golf professional at Augusta National GC, home of the Masters, in 1990-’92 and later for four years at Deepdale GC in New York before becoming Head Golf Professional at Birchwood Country Club (NY) from 1996-2001. He was named Metropolitan (NY) PGA Teacher of the Year in 2000 (and again in 2008.) In 2003, GOLF Magazine named him one of its Top 100 Instructors. In 2008, the same year he made his debut on The Golf Fix, Breed released his first golf book, The Picture-Perfect Golf Swing. In 2011, he was voted 23rd into the Top 50 Instructors in America by Golf Digest. Breed now ranks 13th on the exclusive bi-annual list, and #1 in the state of New York.
Breed, 53, has worked with over 30 PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and Senior Tour players. For the past three years, Breed has represented the PGA of America at the National Golf Day in Washington, D.C. and remains very involved in charities such as the Folds of Honor, Hope for the Warriors, Wounded Warriors Foundation and Salute Military Golf Association.
Held continuously since 1989, the West Michigan Golf Show attracts thousands of Michigan golfers to hundreds of exhibits and will feature clinics, putting contests, junior golf instruction, swing analyzers and unbeatable golf shopping values. Several charities benefit from the Show, including Patriot Golf Day, Folds of Honor and First Tee of West Michigan.
