West Michigan Golf Show’s Top Ten Greatest Hits For The Past 30 Years

(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the West Michigan Golf Show compiled this Top Ten list of its greatest “hits” since 1989. This year’s show will be held Feb. 9-11 at the DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids. Drum roll, please, for:

10. West Michigan Golf Show leaves the Ford Fieldhouse after a 12-year run for the more spacious Grand Center where a real par-3 golf hole is constructed. (2002)

9. West Michigan Golf Show moves into the state-of-the-art DeVos Place. (2004)

8. Rockford (Mich.) native Todd Anderson returns to the Show as the current National PGA Teacher of the Year. PGA Tour star Brandt Snedeker is one of his students. (2011)

7. Treetops’ acclaimed teaching pro Rick Smith packs the seats for his clinics and to tout his newest course design, Arcadia Bluffs. (1999)

6. Show attendee Tom Deane makes an ace at the unprecedented fully landscaped indoor Par-3 hole inside the Welsh Auditorium and wins a two-year lease on a new Cadillac Escalade from Harvey Cadillac (2003)

5. Kathy Gildersleeve-Jensen, the first woman to be named the PGA Teacher of the Year, headlines the 2015 WMGS.

4. Michael Breed, star of Golf Channel’s The Golf Fix, energizes patrons with his lively clinics.

3. It’s SRO for golfers listening to clinics by Jim Flick, legendary golf instructor and esteemed teacher of Tour players, including Jack Nicklaus. (2005)

2. At his indoor clinic at the inaugural WMGS, National Long Drive Champion Evan “Big Cat” Williams drives a golf ball through a phone book. Hank Haney, later a teacher for

Tiger Woods, also gives clinics at this first Golf Show at the Cascade Ice Arena. (1989)
