Byron Nelson Sportswear congratulates PGA Tour Champions ambassador Scott Parel for his playoff finish at the Principal Charity Classic held this past weekend at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa.
Parel, who led at the beginning of the final round, ran into a buzz saw in Kevin Sutherland, who birdied eight of his last nine holes on Sunday. The duo finished regulation play tied at 17-under par. Parel’s mammoth drive on the first sudden death playoff hole left him just 57 yards from the flagstick on the par-4 18th, but he wasn’t able to convert for birdie. Sutherland earned the victory with a birdie on the second playoff hole. Oddly enough, the pair also were pitted in a playoff back in March at the Rapiscan Systems Classic in Biloxi, Miss.
Parel’s second place finish was his third of the season and bumped him up one spot from 6th to 5th in the year-long race for the Charles Schwab Cup. This is his third full-year as an exempt member of the PGA Tour Champions.
